Lipids not only function as structural components and energy storage molecules but also play a crucial role as signaling molecules in multiple regulatory networks. Scientists at the LiFF particularly investigate sphingolipids, endocannabinoids and arachidonic acid metabolites and their impact on cardiovascular, oncological/immunological and neurological diseases. In a translational approach, findings of basic research lead to projects for development of innovative diagnostics and therapeutics. In a strategic alliance, the center combines interdisciplinary expertises and technologies from ZAFES-members of the Goethe-University Frankfurt and scientists of the Max-Planck-Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim. LiFF was facilitated by raising 4 million EUR funding from the „Landes-Offensive zur Entwicklung wissenschaftlich-ökonomischer Exzellenz“ (LOEWE) of Hessen.
