The Competence Network Rheumatology

>

The Competence Network Rheumatology is one of 17 medicinal competence networks funded by the BMBF. Rheumatism is one of the most prominent diseases in Germany. An estimated 1,3 million people alone suffer under inflammatory rheumatism. Diseases of the joints are leading a wide variety of inflammatory disorders, which frequently effect other organs. The competence network would like to teach the effected patients about the advancements of molecular and cell biology, immunology and the development of novel drugs. In addition it would like to make the diagnosis less difficult and to shorten the time until novel therapeutic approaches reach the clinic and are put into practice,
The rheumatological university clinics of Berlin, Düsseldorf , Erlangen, Freiburg, Hanover and Lübeck/Bad Bramstedt and the German Research Center for Rheumatology (DRFZ) in Berlin as well as the collaboration of Regional Cooperative Rheumatology Centers are members of the competence network. This collaboration of Regional Cooperative Rheumatology Centers consists of 25 Centers with more than 110 institutions, including the Rheumatology center Rhein-Main (RZRM). The RZRM is located at the Institute of Rheumatology at the University of Frankfurt and is represented by Prof. Dr. Joachim P. Kaltwasser.
