The Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology houses research groups addressing drug targeting, both after parenteral and oral application. Improvement of drug, nucleic acid, and gene delivery and targeting including brain delivery through appropriate formulation with nanoparticles is the domain of Professor Kreuter’s research group, while Professor Dressman’s research is focused on oral drug delivery, both for therapy of disorders of the gastrointestinal tract and for systemic drug delivery. Further research interests in the Institute include the selective delivery of anticancer drugs to tumors using pharmaceutical and biotechnological carriers, and establishing in vitro-in vivo correlations for dosage forms with modified release.
Study tools range from manufacturing prototype formulations, through in vitro assessment (including biorelevant dissolution tests) and small animal experiments through to clinical studies in conjunction with Prof. Jürgen Stein of the University Clinic.
