Expertise

The Division of Pediatric Pneumology, Allergy and Cystic Fibrosis is involved in the management of children and adolescents with acute and chronic lung diseases. A team of specialized physicians and nurses takes care of children and their families. We provide all modern tools for diagnosis (e.g., lung function measurement in infants and children, bronchial provocation tests, measurement of exhaled NO, bronchoscopy, gastroscopy) and treatment (e.g., tailored inhalation regimens, specific immunotherapies). Our certified laboratory with specialized technicians offers a broad spectrum of immunological and allergological testing.
-
Clinical and laboratory research activities focus on the analysis of molecular and cellular events involved in the pathogenesis of chronic lung disease (e.g., asthma, allergy, cystic fibrosis, ataxia telangiectasia). Besides established and evidence-based clinical and laboratory techniques, we further deal with new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in order to gain deeper insights into the complex mechanisms of inflammatory processes to develop new therapeutic approaches. In this regard, our major topic is to test new compounds (e.g., unsaturated fatty acids, probiotics, autovaccine) in prevention of atopic diseases.
