At the Department of Dermatology and Venerology basic and clinical research is performed in all relevant areas of this field (acute and chronic inflammatory dermatitis, allergology and immunology, andrology, infectious diseases, dermatological oncology, surgical dermatology, medicinal cosmetology). The close connection between laboratory and clinic enables a fast implementation for the benefit of patients (in the sense of translational research). Particularly emphasized is the clinical research. Numerous studies, in all phases of drug approval, are performed in our study health care center. Our own new drug concepts, as well as novel therapy strategies of industrial partners, are tested. The goal is to improve the therapeutic care of patients with skin diseases. Particular efforts are made to improve treatment of psoriasis, which is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with a morbidity of 1% to 3%, and therefore, as frequent as diabetes in the Caucasian population. Further indications among others are atopic dermatitis and acne, as well as oncological indications (basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, malignant melanoma, lymphoma etc.). All studies are performed according to the standards of the ICH-GCP (international conference on harmonization - good clinical practice). Our high quality standards are guaranteed by regular internal and external quality inspections.
